Lesson 1: You Are a New Creation

Key Scripture:

2 Corinthians 5:17 – "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come."

Introduction:

Welcome to the family of God! If you have recently accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, heaven rejoices—and so do we! This study will help you understand what it means to be born again, how your life has changed, and how to grow in your new faith.

What Happened When You Got Saved?

When you accepted Jesus, several powerful things happened instantly:

  1. Your sins were forgiven – (1 John 1:9)

  2. You became a child of God – (John 1:12)

  3. The Holy Spirit came to live in you – (1 Corinthians 6:19)

  4. You received eternal life – (John 3:16)

You might not feel different right away, but the change is real. You are spiritually reborn!

Understanding Your New Identity

As a new believer, it's vital to see yourself the way God sees you:

  • Loved – Romans 5:8

  • Forgiven – Colossians 1:13-14

  • Chosen – 1 Peter 2:9

  • Empowered – Acts 1:8

The enemy may try to remind you of your past, but remember: God no longer holds it against you.

Walking with Jesus Daily

Growing in faith is like growing in any relationship—it takes time and intentional steps.

Start with these basics:

📖 Read the Bible daily – Start with the Gospel of John.
🙏 Pray – Talk to God honestly. He hears you.
🤝 Fellowship – Connect with other believers for encouragement.
🛡 Resist temptation – Use God’s Word to overcome (Matthew 4:1–11).

Reflection Questions

Take a moment to answer these in your journal or notebook:

  1. What does it mean to you that you are a “new creation”?

  2. Are there things from your old life you need to surrender to Jesus?

  3. How can you make space daily for Bible reading and prayer?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for saving me. Thank You that I am a new creation in Christ. Help me to understand Your love, to grow in Your truth, and to walk in Your ways every day. Teach me through Your Spirit and guide me as I follow You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
